Setting Goals for your Spiritual Business
SPA Member Meeting Recap: Business Goals & Strategy

Every month our Certified Members have the opportunity to join a meeting with other members, for friendship and connection with others working in the industry. We have a great time checking in and hearing updates about each others' personal lives and then we have a short discussion on a business topic.
At our January Spiritual Practitioners Association member meeting, we focused on business goals for the year and practical strategies for achieving them. Each member shared one or two objectives, and we used the time to brainstorm actionable steps, marketing ideas, and collaborative opportunities.
Reading Parties:
One concept that generated strong interest was hosting small-group reading parties. Similar in structure to direct-sales gatherings (Mary Kay, Tupperware, etc.), these events would allow practitioners to serve multiple clients in one setting. Benefits include built-in word-of-mouth marketing, the opportunity for potential clients to observe the practitioner’s work firsthand, and a more controlled environment compared to larger vending events. The primary consideration is energy expenditure, though several members noted that a structured guest list and defined time frame may make these more sustainable than large public markets. Is this something you have done before, or would you consider it for your business?
Reading in a shop:
We also discussed offering readings in community spaces such as coffee shops, bars, and bookstores. Coffee shops are a common and often welcoming venue for practitioners, as many allow table use for a few hours. Bookstores — particularly those that carry tarot or metaphysical supplies — present an additional opportunity for collaboration, as clients may be able to purchase featured decks directly in-store. As with any public setting, logistics such as noise levels, foot traffic, and venue policies should be considered.
SMART Goal Setting:
Goal-setting methodology was another important topic. The group emphasized the value of SMART goals — Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound — as a framework for turning broader intentions into actionable plans. With this method of goal setting you work through this list for your goal:
S - Specific: make your goal specific!
M - Measurable: how will you measure your progress for this goal?
A - Attainable: is this goal attainable for you at this time?
R - Relevant: Is this goal relevant to your business and your brand?
T - Time-Bound: set a timeline for your goal, with deadlines for each step.
Reaching New Clients:
We explored low-cost marketing strategies, including:
- Printing flyers (utilizing public library resources if needed)
- Leaving business cards at local businesses
- Posting tear-away sheets on community bulletin boards
- Connecting with local networking groups, such as women’s leadership organizations
Overall, the meeting reinforced the importance of clarity, strategic planning, and community support as we move into the new year. By combining thoughtful goal-setting with creative outreach, members are positioning themselves for steady and sustainable growth in 2026.
