8 Tips for Surviving Holiday Stress as a Spiritual Advisor
Tips for Spiritual Advisors: Surviving Holiday Stress

Surviving Holiday Stress
As Spiritual Advisors (Tarot and oracle card readers, Reiki Practitioners, Astrologers, Psychic Mediums, and more) the holiday season can come with its own set of challenges. Aside from running our own business and providing spiritual care for our clients, we have the additional stress of holiday event planning, family visiting, and additional expenses. In our last Certified Member Monthly Meeting, we had a brainstorming session about what we can all do to help ourselves flow through the holiday season with more grace, and keep our business afloat and successful even through these busy and stressful times. Here is some of what we came up with:
- Take regular breaks, take breaks as needed, say no to additional activities when you are already overwhelmed. Sometimes when we are running our own small business we can forget to give ourselves extra time off. You deserve a holiday and it is important to take breaks! In fact, scheduling yourself breaks or time off is not just something you are "allowed to have", it is something that is
necessary for you to have!
- Set and Hold Boundaries. You can and should say no to some things, and set reasonable boundaries for yourself and others. Giving yourself time off and regular breaks is a great example of Boundary Work. This means saying "no" to extra work that is going to overwhelm you, as well as saying no to social events that are not filling your spirit and are instead draining you of energy and time. Additionally, the holiday season presents all kinds of ways we need to hold ourselves responsible and be aware of our own boundaries - so that we don't fall into unhealthy patterns such as over-spending or over-indulging in substances. Know your limits, respect your limits, do not expect yourself to go past your own limits.
- it is okay to cry. Let yourself express your emotions, rather than holding it all in or hiding your feelings. Schedule time with your therapist if you have one, or make time to have hard conversations if you need to communicate something difficult. Think about who your support team is and ask friends or loved ones if they have time to listen to your vent or share some comfort or advice.
- Be willing to take your own advice. As Spiritual Advisors we are often giving advice to others. Often the advice we give is something we need to follow as well. We are telling our clients to practice self care and to stop putting up with people treating them badly - we should make sure we are taking our own advice so that we become living proof of the power of the medicine that we share. And let's be honest, we do often share advice that our subconscious is telling us we need to follow too!
- Set aside 10 to 15 minutes a day that are just for you. This can be time for daily self care, prayer or meditation, journaling, or a daily emotional check in. This gift to yourself can be priceless, and your show yourself and the Universe that YOU have value and that you are worthy of your own precious time!
- Scheduling out your tasks in advance, using a calendar and to-do lists. At the beginning of each week, make a to-do list that includes your top business priorities and tasks, Then look at your calendar and schedule what day and time is best for this tasks. Remember to be flexible with your schedule and allowing "flex time" - blank unscheduled time so that you have room to move things around when unexpected life stuff comes up. Remember to schedule time for rest and fun too!
- Create a schedule for your marketing and schedule your Social Media posts in advance. It is a great time saver to have a marketing schedule so you know exactly what type of content is getting posted on your buisness pages on what days. There are tools for scheduling your Social Media posts in advance and it is worthwhile to learn how those tools work so you can schedule your posts out one week or a month ahead of time.
- Be willing to let go of the energy you take in, maintaining your spiritual hygiene. You can check out this previous blog post about
